Vintage update 2020 #1: Greer Carland of Quiet Mutiny, Tasmania

2020 Vintage update #1: Tasmanian winemaker Greer Carland joined us in The Wine Loop last May and will be back later this year! She makes her Quiet Mutiny wines in the southern climes of the Derwent and Coal River valleys. We caught up with her just ahead of the 2020 harvest and the evolving challenges of COVID-19:

Greer on vintage...

The season started cool and dry with the wind lingering through until well into December. We saw a warming in the new year, so hopefully it can make up for a slow start. With regards to fires we have been very lucky in the main grape-growing areas to have avoided damaging smoke.

Greer on the warmer months and Quiet Mutiny wines...

The Riesling is always a hit over summer as it has such great drinkability but the Pinot Noir has really been turning heads. With a trophy and a gold medal on it to date, it is quite a popular drop

Greer on 2019 and 2020 - as far as anyone can plan at this stage...

2019 was a super exciting year! We had some great consumer events such as our lunch with The Wine Loop and participating in Dark Mofo just to name a few. It was very exciting to be named in the top 50 Young Gun Winemakers of Wine and absolutely brilliant to pick up the Best Pinot of Show in the National Cool Climate Wineshow with my 2018 Pinot Noir.

As for 2020….? We are delighted to be releasing our 2019 Syrah (available now via the Quiet Mutiny website). We have a little cheeky Riesling Vermouth that has been charming our customers at recent events and we are planning to get that out and about in 2020.

**Since we caught up, Greer has again been nominated in the top 50 Young Gun winemaker list for 2020. She's also been live streaming action shots from vintage so check out her Facebook and Instagram posts for a behind the scenes look.**
