Meet Alkimi winemaker and owner Stuart Dudine!
Meet winemaker Stuart Dudine of Alkimi wines!
Stuart’s passion for the varieties of the Rhone sprang from his time at Henschke, South Australia. Here he first experienced the qualities of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre displayed by Australian grown grapes that were handled with the finesse of the old-world winemaking of France.
Having begun his wine journey in 2005, working vintages in Austria and France developed Stuart's focus on vineyard characteristics and the use of "basic principals" - fundamental, time-honoured methods to get the most out of his grapes and wine.
Stuart's admiration of the Rhone style grew further during his experience of vintage at Yarra Yering. He has now been living and working in the Yarra Valley since 2012, most notably, as winemaker with Mac Forbes Wines. Whilst he focuses his attention on the Yarra Valley, he sources fruit far and wide in Victoria to ensure the best growing conditions for the specific varieties.
In 2015, he secured a silver medal at the Yarra Valley Wine Show for his 2014 'The Good Earth' Syrah, his first ever wine release into the market under his own label. The Alkimi name is taken from the phonetic spelling of Alchemy and pays homage to fire, water, air and earth – and the season, the soil and the fruit.
In 2017 Stuart began farming his own vineyard. Rousanne, Marsanne, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre are at the heart of the Alkimi range - along with a Rosé that takes its form from season to season and regularly sells out on allocation!
Join Stuart and just 14 guests for lunch on Saturday 4th July at Yagiz in South Yarra and enjoy five wine tasting flights paired to a degustation- style menu, with Yagiz Head Chef and owner Murat Ovaz joining us to share insights about the wine and food pairings. Like being at a dinner party with friends, this is designed to be an afternoon of wine chat and conversation and there will be no questions off the table for Stuart and Murat!
